BASEBALL 2024 SCHEDULE

ABOUT: The Green Hornets Baseball Program is available for boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 18. Green Hornets offers club or recreational and travel (more competitive) baseball opportunities. For club baseball, the Spring season typically begins with practices in mid-March (weather permitting) and concludes prior to the end of the school year. The Fall season typically begins the last week of August and concludes by mid November. The following pertains to rec players.

REC LEAGUE ASSIGNMENTS: Players are placed in a league according to their age on August 31 of the current year for the Spring Season. For Fall Baseball, players are assigned to leagues based upon their age on August 31 of the following year. Except in travel baseball, players are not permitted to play up (i.e. a younger player may not play outside his age-group on a team composed of older players).

REC GAME AND PRACTICE SCHEDULES: Teams typically practice twice a week in the pre-season. After games begin, the schedule transitions to one practice on a week night one game on a week night and a game on Saturday. There are typically 12 in-house (i.e. intramural games among Green Hornets teams) games (weather permitting). Practice days and times are coordinated with the head coaches and established when rosters are released.

REC ROSTER ASSIGNMENTS: Players in the Little Gloves, T-Ball, Clinic and Rookie 7 leagues are typically placed on teams based upon the school they attend followed by area in which they live. Parent requests are honored to the extent practical. Each year, Green Hornets succeeds in accommodating a large percentage of parent requests; however accommodation of all requests is impractical and may not occur. TRAVEL BASEBALL: Green Hornets offers specific opportunities for those kids wishing to play baseball at a higher level. Those opportunities exist for players from ages 8 - 14. Our travel baseball league utilizes the April 31st/May1st age cut-off/age determination date. The number of games, depending on the wishes of the coaches, could vary, and may be 40 to 70 games during the spring and summer. Travel throughout the area and out of state may also occur, depending on the leagues, tournaments, etc. It is important to understand that the opportunities at the travel team level require competitive tryouts. Playing time, batting line-up and position rotation are determined by the coaches and may not be equally distributed. Tryouts are typically held late in the summer or early in the fall prior to the operative spring season. Travel team seasons typically include winter work-outs, spring league play and spring and summer tournaments. Some travel teams elect to play a fall schedule after tryouts as well. Travel teams are self-funded and require additional fees and expenses over and above the standard registration fee. Travel Baseball involves a significant time and financial commitment. Specific questions can be directed to Commissioner, Michael Phillips [email protected] .
