Green Hornets Soccer Club Team Creation Methodology Leagues will be formed according to the number of players available in each age group by calendar year. If sufficient players are available to form a 6-team league, leagues will be formed in single year age groups. In order to balance leagues, players may be moved to different age groups based upon lateness of birth date, soccer experience, parent request, and grade in school.
Head coaches will be selected based upon interest, coaching expertise, and past adherence to the policies of GSPAA and the Soccer Program. Priority will be given to parents or close relatives of players. If there are more coaches than needed, the League Coordinator will make every effort to satisfy those parents who are strongly committed to coaching. However, if there is a shortage of parent coaches, volunteers who do not have children in the Club Program will be selected based upon the above criteria. In the event that a coach is under the age of 18 years, a parent will be selected from the team roster to act as manager and be present at all practices. Anne Arundel County requires screening of coaches in which case required information submitted by prospective coaches will be collected by the organization and submitted to Anne Arundel County officials. Their review will be strictly confidential.
If the Head Coach has only one son or daughter on his team, he has the right to select an Assistant Coach and his child up to a total of two players, including his own child and his assistant coach’s child. Rosters will be formed on the basis of age and random assignment and evenly distributing known talent levels. A League Coordinator may at his choosing establish a draft system wherein coaches will pick from a pool of players with established player evaluations. For instance, in a two-year age group, players will be divided into two age groups prior to team assignment. Target roster size for leagues age 10 and under is 11 players with 7X7 play and for leagues age 11 and older up to 16 players per team for on field play up to 11X11 The League Coordinator will ensure he follows a method to fairly distribute the players in his league attempting to build teams of even ability. There will be no team recruitment of players by the head coach. A head coach may refer new players to his League Coordinator and Soccer Registrar for assignment.
The League Coordinator will only assign players after authorization is received from the Soccer Registrar. After late registration closes League Coordinators will control any additional late registration requests. If there is room in the requested league the League Coordinator will allow a late registration; if there is no room the League Coordinator will advise the requesting parent of wait-list status. When there is room the parent must complete late registration, including late fee and annual family registration if applicable. Late fees are usually waived for players new to the area or when transferring from another Fall Green Hornet Sport for which they are already registered. No player may practice or participate in any team activities until Registration is complete. Club league players may not also play in a select league.
