GREEN HORNETS FOOTBALL TRYOUTS
Sport Classification:
- Football is a select sport. Playing time and positions played are evaluated and assigned by the coaches to give teams the best opportunity to succeed.
- If multiple teams for each weight/age group are available, team assignment will be determined by evaluation and tryouts, not request.
- THERE IS NO EQUAL PLAY RULE OR MANDATORY POSITION PLAYED REQUIREMENT
- Due to increasing registration each year and the fact that the number of teams and players within our program is limited, the program structure is completely unique to other sports. Please be sure to read the “Football Registration and team availability” link listed above for further details.
Tryouts/ Team Assignments:
- The Green Hornets will attempt to field multiple teams at all weight classes, but ultimately the number of teams at each class is determined by total number of registered players.
- If a waitlist is not needed and the number of players trying out exceeds the recommended roster limits, player evaluations and cuts will be necessary.
- The recommended roster is 22 players. The minimum roster for county regulations is 15 players.
Please understand multiple teams are not guaranteed for each weight class.
The county requires a “Division 1” team at each level before allowing organizations fielding “Division 2 or 3” teams.
Therefore all players trying out are considered for the Division 2 or most competitive team.
- The only exception is the 125lb / 12 Unlimited and 135lb / 13 Unlimited where players may choose which team to try out for.
- Any player that is cut in this process is eligible for a full refund.
Selection Process:
- The process of selecting a player for a team or possible cuts, considers several areas. These include but are not limited to: Player skill, Player potential, Game understanding, experience, possible position placement, size, speed etc.
- All players of each weight class can anticipate practicing together for evaluation, the first week of summer practice, possibly longer if needed.
- Division 1-team coaches, will hold evaluations and team selection will be finalized no later than Friday August 1st.
This is a select sport and your attendance and commitment will be critical
In the decision making process.
IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND THE FIRST WEEK OF TRYOUTS, AND THERE IS A WAITLIST AT YOUR LEVEL, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM ACTIVE STATUS AND PLACED ON THE WAITLIST.
Team / Coaches Requests
- The Football program is classified as a select sport. Players will be placed on teams by correct age and weight requirements as well as evaluation, not requests.
