GREEN HORNETS FOOTBALL: 2011 SEASON
Season & Important Dates
One of the biggest drawbacks to non-diehard football fans is the season length and commitment.
We have tried to improve as best we could from an organizational standpoint to make it less demanding with some changes as well as provide dates for planning.
- Equipment hands out dates are set. Four separate dates including two weekdays have been selected. Similar to last year, you may choose which one works best for your schedule.
- We elected to start Practice on July 20th (in t-shirts and shorts only) even though the county allows us to begin July 18th – the purpose of the two practices that week (20/21 July) is to allow API to conduct an Athletic Skills Evaluation as part of our try-out process in determining player placement. Practice in Full Equipment begins on Monday, 25 August.
- Friday August 5th will be a mandatory day off for all Green Hornets teams. This is the last weekend that does not have scheduled football activities. ENJOY THIS WEEKEND!
In addition, the county shortened the season by two full weeks to allow for Thanksgiving holiday plans and a short break before winter sports tryouts.

Weather
Players can plan on practicing and playing in adverse weather conditions and should dress and plan accordingly. Practices and games are only canceled if the county decides.
Practice:
- We have arranged for API to conduct an Athletic Skills Evaluation for all players on the 20th and 21st of July – T-shirts and shorts only.
- Teams will start practice this year on Monday July 25th in full equipment.
- Coaches will contact players with details of each individual team's schedule and specific information.
- The first month of practice is held at Cypress Creek Park, located on Cypress Creek Road behind the United Title Building on Route 2.
- The week before Labor Day, most teams will move their practices to Kinder Park.
- Teams practice five days (2hrs max per) a week, Monday through Friday, during August. Once school starts, practices will be cut back to three days a week.
- Plan to practice in full gear for the first practice (25 July) unless your individual coach notifies you otherwise.
Round Robin:
In the past, the County has sponsored a "Round Robin" scrimmage day – last year they did not. These were controlled mini scrimmages with no score keeping or officiating against various county teams within the same weight class. Location and specific start times to be determined.
Pre-season Game:
This is a full dress rehearsal with referees, game rules and score keeping. Games will be held the weekend of August 20th. Location and Time TBD
Games:
- All teams will play a nine game regular season.
- Away games are played at various parks in Anne Arundel County and occasionally across the bay bridge into Queen Anne's county.
- Home games are held at Kinder Park.
- Game day can be Friday night, Saturday day or night, or an occasional Sunday day game.
- Regular season games will begin the weekend of August 27th.
Playoffs:
Anne Arundel County football has a playoff system for each weight class that consists of a two game playoff during the last weekend of October and first weekend of November. Playoffs end with championship games the weekend of November 12th. Teams must qualify for the playoffs, and each game is single elimination.
Practice, Game and Field Locations:
This year we will be try to utilize the new High School turf field for both practice and games as much as possible, however details are not yet finalized. Practice will begin at Cypress Park located behind the monumental title building on Ritchie Highway. As plans to relocate are finalized, you will be notified of changes.
